Kings of Persis
Vādfradād I (Autophradates)
AR (Silver) | Tetradrachm | 3rd century BC
| | 9h
Silver tetradrachm of Vādfradād I (Autophradates I) struck at Istakhr in the 3rd century BC.
This early Persis issue marks the emergence of regional authority following the decline of Seleukid control. The obverse portrait, featuring the ruler in kyrbasia with a distinctive diadem, blends Achaemenid and Hellenistic stylistic influence. The reverse fire temple scene represents the sacred continuity of Zoroastrian devotion, with Ahura Mazda depicted above the altar and the ruler shown in attendance as guardian of divine fire.
